S.I.M.P.L.E Shared Improvisational Movement Practices for Layered Ecology
SIMPLE is a collaborative network of researchers, practitioners, and educators who take an embodied interest in ecology and sustainability. Our mission is to learn together as diverse people, engaging in movement practice and scholarly debate to explore and communicate the different layers of embodied sustainability
Bridging practice and theory
Despite advances in sustainability science, environmental crises persist as debates remain abstract and disconnected from daily life. Embodied practices foster direct engagement, merging cognitive, emotional, and aesthetic awareness to enrich how we relate to and enact sustainability. How can we bridge embodied practices and theory?
Layers of ecology
The Layered Ecology framework recognizes that sustainability is not a singular concept but an interconnected web of relationships spanning self, the body, society, environment, and the transcendent. By exploring different layers, we gain a deeper understanding of how ecological consciousness is evolving and unfolding. Investigating these layers allows us to identify where Shared Improvisational Movement Practices can foster meaningful sustainability shifts and where they may fall short. How can we enrich our understanding of sustainability?
Commun-ication
Communication is embodied and multimodal, essential for creating communities, sharing knowledge, and exploring interconnectedness.” interconnectedness. At SIMPLE, we connect diverse experts and audiences, making embodied sustainability accessible while prioritizing communication as a core practice in community building. How can we/ do we make meaning together?
